To help authors format their references correctly before submitting their manuscript to a Veruscript journal, we have developed citation style files that can be used with some of the most popular reference management programmes. You will find the files and basic instructions below for the programmes we support.
If you use Zotero, you can install the relevant CSL style files below to format your references as per Veruscript's author guidelines.
First, identify which of Veruscript's three reference styles you need by checking the author guidelines for the relevant journal, or by looking at an article published in that journal. The three styles we use are:
Second, download the appropriate file by clicking on the link above, and install it in Zotero. You can do so by double-clicking it while Zotero is running, or by adding a style in Preferences > Cite > Styles in Zotero.
Finally, select the style you have just installed in your word processor through the Zotero plugin.
For the footnote style, you should add the reference as a footnote first and then edit that footnote if you wish to add a comment pertaining to the reference (rather than the other way round). If you'd like to cite several references at the same location in the text, be sure to select Zotero's "multiple sources" option so that all the references are inserted under a single footnote. You can also insert footnotes containing only notes and no references through your word processor. These footnotes should integrate seamlessly with the ones created by Zotero.
If a type of reference is not supported by our CSL file or you experience any other problems, please feel free to email us at editorial@veruscript.com.
Mendeley Desktop users can import the CSL reference style files below to apply Veruscript's styles to their references.

Second, download the appropriate file by clicking on the link above, and install it in Mendeley Desktop. You can do so by dropping the file in the citationStyles-1.0 sub-directory of the folder where Mendeley Desktop is installed, and then start the programme.
Finally, select the style you have just installed in View > Citation Style > More Styles... or through your word processor Mendeley plugin.
For the footnote style, you need to add a footnote using your word processing programme and then insert the reference(s) into that footnote using Mendeley Desktop. You can also add a comment on the reference in the footnote.
If a type of reference is not supported by our CSL file or you have any other problem, please feel free to email us at editorial@veruscript.com.
